Students at Jesuit Academy recently celebrated successful basketball, soccer and track seasons at their annual sports banquet.  Approximately 65 guests were in attendance as 49 student athletes were honored by their coaches and Jesuit Academy staff members for their achievement throughout the season(s).  Academics and athletic performance go hand-in-hand at the Jesuit Academy.  All student-athletes must meet eligibility requirements and if they don’t, they sit the bench until their grades improve.  The 2012-2013 athletic season was possible due to cost-saving donations and volunteerism from:  Chubb Foods, Friends of Jesuit Academy, Charlie Kremla and Oscar’s Pizza and Sports Grille.

Guest speaker for the evening was Josh Jones, a 2004 graduate of the school – then named Jesuit Middle School of Omaha.  Jones, who grew up directly across the street from Jesuit, reflected on his time at the school, Central High School and Creighton University, as well as his personal and athletic backgrounds.  In addition, he stressed the importance of education and goal setting – both on and off the court.  Jones is slated to graduate from Creighton University

Dean of Students and Athletic Director Joe Ogba, Principal Troy Wharton and Jones distributed the “Scholar-Athlete Award” to a student from each grade, based on their performance in the classroom and on the court/field. They are as follows:  Jamari Richards, fourth grade; T.J. Griffin, fifth grade; D, sixth grade; William Worthington, seventh grade and Jordan Flowers, eighth grade.
