Jesuit students cleaned out their desks, turned in their books, and headed out the door for a few weeks of relaxation after the final day of classes on May 17.  The final two months held many highlights including field trips to Going Vertical, the Zoo, and the Jesuit Camp.  Students will return to the camp for a three week summer session in June (upper grades) or July (lower grades).  Below are some highlights from the last couple months.

Science Fair

The 5th annual Jesuit Academy Science Fair was held on April 12 in the school gym.  Students from grades 6-8 presented projects in the earth, life, and physical sciences.  The fair was attended and judged by nearly 100 parents, mentors, friends, and students from Creighton University's Science Methods for Education class.  Cedrick Henderson-Smith, an 8th grader, took the honor as the top individual project for his experiment on breaking glass with sound.  For his experiment, he was able to find the fundamental frequency of a wine glass, reproduce the frequency with a sound editing program, then amplify it and use it to break the glass.  For more on this experiment and others, check out the jesuit academy science fair online.

Track and Soccer

Jesuit Academy students took part in track and field and soccer during April and May.  The track team took second in the Jesuit/Cornerstone Invite and won their first meet in school history at the St. Wenceslaus Invite held on May 5.  In soccer, several volunteer coaches from Creighton University and Creighton Prep helped the young men improve each game and earn an important win in the final game.

8th Grade Graduation

The Jesuit Academy Class of 2012 graduated on May 14 in a ceremony held at the school.  Former Creighton basketball player, and current minister, Josh Dotzler gave the commencement speech and school counselor Tony Phillip sang a musical selection for the graduates.  At the completion of the ceremony, a reception for the graduates and their families was held in the gym.
