Fourth Graders Have the Best Seat in the House

The fourth grade class has shown a little extra bounce the past couple months thanks to a bright idea from their homeroom teacher, J.J. Pick.  After reading some recent research on the benefits of movement in the classroom, Pick decided to replace the traditional metal and plastic chairs with rubber exercise balls.  In place of the four legged seats, students now perch atop a grey rubber ball during daily instruction.  Coupled with some strict guidelines set by Mr. Pick, the balls have helped students' posture and focus and made the classroom a more welcoming place.

"It's really nice to have the exercise balls, they're way better than the old seats," said 4th grader Corey Trigg.  "At first it was a little weird, but now I don't even think about it."

Pick has seen the benefits first hand and says it really helps students, who might otherwise be a little fidgety, stay focused.  "It's been great.  The students have done a great job with them and handled the transition well.  I'm glad we did it."
